About

synapse

Founded in 2025, Synapse Technologies is an energy software company devoted to revolutionising energy modelling, planning and analytics.

Our world is undergoing seismic transformation – global energy systems are in overhaul, as is our climate, while machine learning has advanced what’s possible. Synapse has been born to meet this moment.

Founded by energy veterans seeking more flexible and effective software solutions, Synapse fills as a gap in the landscape, connecting formerly siloed information into a single, accessible platform. Our flagship technology Amplink is capable of bringing together vast energy, weather, and policy datasets to create dynamic and accurate models.

lumi adisa (PhD)
Managing Partner

With a career spanning energy strategy, software, and market design, Lumi brings deep expertise in energy market analytics and a track record of pioneering solutions for complex, renewable-driven systems.

Prior to founding Synapse Technologies, Lumi was Director of Energy Market Analytics at NEOM, where he led the team responsible for planning and forecasting the energy supply and demand mix for NEOM — Saudi Arabia’s 100% renewable city of the future. He played a pivotal role in aligning market design with sustainability goals, helping lay the groundwork for what is expected to be one of the world’s most advanced clean energy systems when completed.

Earlier in his career, Lumi was instrumental at the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), where he led the development of the proof-of-concept models for the Inaugural Integrated System Plan (ISP 2018) — a milestone in Australia's energy transition.

He also held senior roles at Octopus Investments Australia as Investment Director – Head of Energy Markets, working closely with large-scale investors on renewable and storage opportunities.

Lumi holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Adelaide, where his thesis focused on modelling energy storage using nanotechnology. His passion for innovation extends to the development of energy modelling software, having architected and led the creation of several advanced tools that underpin market forecasting, system planning, and investment strategy.

Whether driving large-scale policy frameworks or building the next generation of energy software, Lumi brings a singular mix of technical depth and strategic vision to the energy transition.

george wong
Technology Lead

George Wong is a rare blend of elite energy market modeller, hands-on software engineer, and product-minded leader who can take an ambiguous, high-stakes energy question and turn it into a model or platform that stands up to scrutiny.

With 15+ years of experience across power systems planning, market design, and investment analytics, he spent more than a decade as a core developer of PLEXOS, helping shape one of the world’s leading energy market simulation platforms from its foundations—giving him unusual depth in not just using complex models, but understanding how they’re built, why they behave the way they do, and how to make them faster, more reliable, and more defensible for executives, investors, and policymakers.

Now, as co-founder and Tech Lead at Synapse Technologies, he led the creation of Amplink, a next-generation intelligence platform that fuses long-term system modelling, short-term operational optimisation, advanced analytics, and AI/LLM-driven insight.

He has also advised major international players including ENOWA (NEOM), delivering supply adequacy planning, bottom-up demand forecasting, nodal modelling, and executive-grade business intelligence scenario dashboards that strengthen decision-making at scale.

Whether it’s essential system services for post-2025 reforms, 5-minute settlement transition modelling, hydrogen and flexibility integration, or investment-grade renewable asset assessment, George delivers trustworthy models, actionable insights, and real-world systems performance.

Backed by degrees in Mechatronics Engineering and Mathematical & Computer Science from the University of Adelaide, and fluent in Python, R, C++/C#, SQL, leading solvers, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), he’s known for turning hard technical problems into clear strategy while lifting his team’s capability along the way.

MIKE Rand
EXECUTIVE ADVISOR

Mike is a sustainable energy leader and investor who has helped build multi-gigawatt renewable platforms across global markets. He co-founded and co-led the first solar fund listed on the London Stock Exchange, setting a new benchmark for how institutional capital can be deployed at scale into clean energy.
Today, Mike remains a driving force in Australia’s energy transition – originating and backing high impact ventures, guiding strategy from the boardroom, and bringing a rare mix of commercial discipline and mission-led leadership. His work consistently focuses on accelerating investment, unlocking development pathways, and turning ambitious decarbonisation goals into operational, investable outcomes.
